This time of year, more than any, we all tend to accessorize our entry doors because of the approaching holidays. These suggestions are ideal for those that have double doors (storm and entry doors)

1. DO NOT try to hang a quality custom-design arrangement between the doors. Normally the easement between doors is 3 to 6 inches. These small depth measurements are not friendly to floral arrangements 5″ to 12″ or more in-depth. The look you find in a well designed door piece with depth absolutely cannot be duplicated to a 3-5 inch space.

2. Hang an entry accent between doors, select a painted slate plaque or a single personalize one with “Welcome” and your family name. Seasonal signage of “greeting” or even some of the flat craft store pre-made wreaths that are smaller and thinner, made with materials designed to be more forgiving when pressed. This look is far more becoming from afar, plus to those friends that stand at your entry only to view a squished and contorted piece mashed between the doors. Even well made bows will look mashed and lose their perkiness and crisp fresh appearance. Remember when as kids we pressed our faces against the window glass to make unrecognizable and ugly faces? This is the same look, dear friends, that you family and friends will be greeted with!

Instead, lets hang well designed door arrangements on the exterior door even if it is the storm door. There are numerous mechanics available to do this along with to prevent any scratching of window your glass. Ask your designer when ordering your custom piece.

3. Door pieces are not meant to be preserved and used for years. They are not at all welcoming or attractive . Instead, gather a seasonal wardrobe of arrangements so that any one of them is never up more than 3 months. The steady force of weather elements deteriorate the materials pass that point. Replace or just wait to the next season you wish to decorate or accent your door. A well planned wardrobe of 5 seasonal arrangements, regularly rotated, stored properly in large black trash bags, hanging on the garage wall, will last 3 to 6 years depending on the climate.

Each will greet guests with a fresh, perky, quality design worth viewing!

Nancy

Large Gourds are one of natures beautiful and whimsical art forms all by themselves. Using some of these beauties from Alta Mae Farms, we considered the shape, form and finish. With other natural materials such as bittersweet, willow and seasonal flowers, we went on to create items using gourds as the focal point.

As we studied pieces for entry, table center pieces, mantles and more, we learned the art of adding a few fresh autumn materials, to these simplistic gourds, while retaining them as our unusual focal point.

Few seasons lead as much beautiful form, texture and color as does Autumn. Take time to enjoy all these natural bounty and be thankful for everything we have been blessed with.

Blessings to you,
